The Volta region’s Mepe town, which had previously experienced flooding brought on by the Akosombo and Kpong dams, respectively, is now experiencing another unfortunate incident.
The township’s steel bridge, which connected Juapong and the Central Tongue and had been in place for a considerable amount of time, collapsed, causing Adidome.
Specifically, and based on accounts, it was observed that an oversized, heavily laden trailer tried to cross the border, resulting in that feature.
In the meantime, it was noted that no one was injured as a result of that incident. However, the District Chief Executive, Mr Osborn Devine Fenu, has issued a public general advisory via his personal and private Facebook pages. He made a powerful observation.
In addition, he further asked that motorists should ensure taking an alternate route through another Mepe town, thus enabling them to have access to Adidome and Juapong, respectively.
Though there have been no conclusive investigations into the reason behind the bridge collapse, the DCE vehemently asserted that it might be related to the trailer. He noted. According to the report, the aforementioned trailer was completely loaded with cargo that was heavier than the advised maximum load.
However, he made a strong observation that it would be challenging to determine which of the two problems—the vehicle or the bridge—was too weak to support those vehicles in the interim until the investigations were finished.
