Barikisu Losina, the immediate previous District Chief Executive (DCE) of Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district, was apparently engaged in an accident.
According to Citi FM, the accident occurred near Guripe on the Sawla-Damongo road on Saturday morning. Madam Losina was travelling with her child and a driver when the tragedy occurred. The cause is yet to be determined.
Madam Losina and other passengers are reportedly being treated at St. Anne’s Hospital in Damongo.
President Akufo-Addo abruptly rescinded her appointment, as well as those of 23 other Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), for unclear reasons.
In response, the President nominated 26 people to replace the vacated positions. Akufo-Addo explained that his decision is consistent with Article 243 (3) b of the Constitution and Section 20 (3) b of the Local Government Act, 2014 (Act 936).
These legal rules govern the appointment and dismissal of MMDCEs. The situation raises doubts about the circumstances that led to Madam Losina’s and others’ departure, adding to the mystery surrounding recent changes in local government leadership.
