Ryan Minor, a former star baseball and basketball player for Oklahoma, passed away on Friday afternoon after a year-long fight with colon cancer.

In the fall of 2022, 49-year-old Minor received a Stage IV colon cancer diagnosis. Ryan’s death was verified by his twin brother Damon Minor, a former baseball player for the Oklahoma and San Francisco Giants, via X, the app that was formerly known as Twitter.

Minor’s claim to fame came in 1998 when he made his major league debut. On September 20, 1998, he started for the Orioles in lieu of Cal Ripken Jr., ending Ripken’s MLB record run of 2,632 games. Minor had a 1 for 4 game.
