American singer-songwriter Rudolph Bernard Isley, one of the original members of The Isley Brothers, lived from April 1, 1939, to October 11, 2023.
Rudy was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, and started singing in the church when he was a small child. He joined Kelly, Ronnie, and Vernon in the singing group The Isley Brothers while he was in his teenage years. The three senior Isleys who were left after Vernon’s death relocated to New York in 1957 to look for a recording contract. They later recorded for smaller labels before securing a deal with RCA Records in 1959, when they wrote, recorded, and released their first important song, “Shout.” The Isley family had relocated to a residence in Englewood, New Jersey by the summer of that year from Cincinnati.
