Gallego married Kate Gallego, whom he met while they were both at Harvard University, and moved west with her in 2010.
She now serves as the mayor of Phoenix. Michael Grant Gallego, the couple’s kid, was born after the couple split up in late 2016.

Grant, his grandfather and father’s best friend, inspired Michael’s name.
“I told him about Grant, and that he would grow up to be a nice man just like Grant,” Gallegos wrote about what he told his son shortly after his birth.
Gallego joined a reserve unit in New Mexico after graduating from Harvard in 2004.
Months later, he and other reserve unit members were deployed to Lima Company, along with about 185 other Marines.
They took part in dozens of “sweeps” through Iraqi deserts and towns in 2005 to collect weapons and drive away or kill Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein’s supporters.
