Blakeman was an officer and director of prolific program producer Mark Goodson Productions.

He is a prominent entertainment attorney with an early concentration on theatrical law. He was general counsel of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, now known as the Recording Academy, for a quarter-century and was awarded the Trustees’ Award in 2003.

 

Royal Blakeman, a longtime entertainment attorney who served as president of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in the 1960s, died on Sunday in Delray Beach, Florida. He died at the age of 99. Kindly continue reading to find out Blakeman’s cause of death.

The news was announced by NATAS, but no cause of death was given.

“Our Academy has lost one of its founding generations,” said NATAS Chairman Terry O’Reilly said in a statement. “Royal Blakeman was a part of the fabric of the broadcasting industry at its most burgeoning time. He helped shape how several Academies celebrate excellence across media today and for generations to come.”

He also served as the seventh president of NATAS, from 1966 to 1968. Prior to that, he served as president of the organization’s New York chapter from 1963 to 1965.
