Ron Hodges dies aged 74: Cause of death, obituary and funeral

Ron Hodges, 74, passed away on Friday after making it from Franklin County to the major leagues.

The Franklin County High School alum spent twelve seasons as a catcher for the New York Mets.

Following a brief illness, Hodges passed away at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, according to Mets spokesman Jay Horwitz, who talked to The Associated Press. Hodges had resided in Franklin County.

One of Hodges’ sons, Casey Hodges, confirmed his father’s passing to The Roanoke Times, although he would not elaborate. During his twelve major league seasons, Ron Hodges was a catcher for the New York Mets. From 1973 until 1984, he was a player with the New York Mets.

Upon visiting Hodges and his spouse in their Franklin County residence in 2008, The Roanoke Times noticed a framed collection of the numerous baseball cards he had the opportunity to appear on in their living room.
