Roderick David “Rod” Stewart was born in London, England, on January 10, 1945. He is the youngest of Robert Joseph Stewart and Elsie Rebecca Gilbart’s five children. He is of Scottish and British descent.

Sports and hobbies like playing soccer and building model trains dominated his boyhood. He captained the Middlesex Schoolboys soccer team while playing for them.

Early in the 1960s, Stewart began to take an interest in music when he began studying the harmonica and later the piano.

His first influences included the singer Al Jolson and actor Little Richard. Stewart left school at the age of 15 to pursue his dream of becoming a professional soccer player.
