Keir Rodney Starmer is a British politician and former lawyer who has been the Labour Party’s and the Opposition’s Leader since 2020.
Starmer grew up in Surrey, where he attended the selective state Reigate Grammar School, which later became an independent school while he was a student.
He doubles as an alumnus of the University of Leeds and the University of Oxford.
Following Labour’s crushing defeat in the 2019 general election, Jeremy Corbyn announced his resignation as Labour Party leader.
Starmer declared his candidacy for the ensuing leadership election on January 4, 2020, amassing support from MPs as well as the trade union Unison.
