The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has taken a firm stand in the face of recent developments involving Rock City’s bid to purchase a majority stake in SSNIT’s hotels. Despite Rock City’s decision to withdraw its bid, the GMA remains resolute in its call for a nationwide strike.

In a recent statement, the GMA General Secretary, Dr Richard Selormey, emphasized that the association’s decision to withdraw its services will proceed as planned. The roadmap set out by Organised Labour includes a complete shutdown of public health services by July 22, with all services being gradually withdrawn leading up to that date.

While Rock City Hotel has cited negative commentary and lack of stakeholder engagement as reasons for withdrawing its bid, the GMA remains focused on addressing the root issues at hand. Dr Selormey stressed that the association’s goal is to prevent the sale of the 60% stake in SSNIT’s hotels, regardless of the involvement of Rock City or any other company.

The GMA is adamant about the need to maintain and properly manage these assets to ensure a return on the investment that has been put into them. Dr Selormey urged for proper management of the hotels to preserve their value and benefit the stakeholders involved.

Despite Rock City’s disengagement from the bidding process, the GMA continues to push for the protection of the assets in question. The association’s unwavering stance underscores the importance of safeguarding public health services and ensuring the optimal management of critical assets.
