A 70-year-old Shrewsbury serial killer has passed away.
For the 1994 homicide of retired man Robert Young during a break-in, Robin Ligus received a life sentence in prison in 1996.
The former painter and decorator was admitted to a mental health facility in 2011, after a jury determined that he had also slain Trevor Bradley and Brian Coles in the same year.
He passed away on December 16 and a Birmingham inquest into his death is scheduled to begin on Monday.
Mr. Coles’ death was discovered six months after the 57-year-home old’s in Whitchurch-area Higher Heath was broken into.
A rod of iron had struck him, killing him.
Ligus, a cocaine and heroin user and father of three, told the jury that he committed the crimes to support his addiction.
Even though he acknowledged the offenses occurred many years prior, the sentencing judge, Mr. Justice Treacy, described him at the time as a tremendously dangerous character.
