Former high jumper for Peruvian known as ‘Kangaroo’ for his achievements as a high jump athlete Roberto Abugattás Aboid has passed away. He died on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the age of 80.

However, Roberto Abugattás Aboid was born on January 17, 1943, in Mollendo, Peru. He gained fame when he was the protagonist of a TV commercial with his great-granddaughter during the COVID-19 pandemic. On social networks, hundreds of people regret his departure since he was also mayor of La Molina. He competed in the 1964 and 1968 Summer Olympics.

In 1963 he won first place in the South American Championships in Cali, in addition, he was runner-up in 1965 and 1967, while in 1964 he won the bronze medal. In 2011 he was World Master Champion in High Jump.

That same year the Congress of Peru awarded him the Medal of Honor in the Grand Cross Degree for his sporting merits. During the opening ceremony of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, he had the honor, along with other glories of Peruvian sports, to carry the Panam Sports flag.
