Robert Anthony Plant CBE born 20 August 1948 is an English singer and songwriter best known as the main singer and lyricist of the English rock band Led Zeppelin from 1968 until 1980 when the band disbanded following the death of the band’s drummer, John Bonham. Plant and the band were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.
Robert developed an early interest in singing and rock & roll music; in a 1994 interview with Andrew Denton on the Denton talk show, Plant expressed his wish to be like Elvis Presley as a ten-year-old:
In his mid-teens, he left King Edward VI Grammar School for Boys in Stourbridge and developed a deep enthusiasm for the blues, owing to his respect for Willie Dixon, Robert Johnson, and early interpretations of blues tunes.
