Robert Klah, Head of Public Events and Communications for the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, has invited Ghanaian singer and songwriter Sista Afia to contact the organization if she has any complaints over her exclusion from the list of nominees for the 2024 event.
This follows the publication of the 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards nominee list on March 28, 2024.
Sista Afia responded to the announcement with a tweet, claiming that she was being treated unfairly by the system, especially after her 2021 hit “Asuoden” had no nominations in the previous edition.
She questioned whether she had upset anybody at the organization and claimed that some artists receive nominations without even filing.
Responding to her complaints on Hitz FM on April 2, 2024, Robert Klah asserted that the scheme’s organizers were following all proper nomination procedures.
He stated that, contrary to her accusations, Sista Afia had not upset anyone at the scheme. As a result, she does not face any unjust treatment.
“Sister Afia may always reach out to me. I am always accessible. I don’t believe she has trodden on anyone’s toes. “We are following the same procedure that we used to nominate artists,” he added.
Robert Klah also refuted Sista Afia’s assertions that some artists receive nominations without ever applying.
He stated that a professional research team is in charge of deserving nominations, and that they always contact the artists in advance.
“It is not fully accurate that people do not file for nominations but are nominated. We have a research staff that selects songs that deserve nominations. Even so, we contact the artist first,” he explained.
Robert Klah urged any artists who may have issues about their selections to contact his organization for clarification.
“If for any reason, anyone has a strong case, you can petition the board and we will do what has to be done,” he told reporters.
