Robert John Burke is a well-known American actor who was born on September 12, 1960. He is best known for his appearances in the films RoboCop 3 (1993), Tombstone (1993), and Thinner (1996). Burke was the son of Irish immigrants who had settled in New York City’s Washington Heights neighborhood. Burke’s parents were originally from Galway. He received his training in acting from the State University of New York at Purchase’s Acting Conservatory.
The beginning of Burke’s career in cinema was spent as a frequent performer in independent films directed by fellow Purchase graduate Hal Hartley, including 1989’s The Unbelievable Truth. In the film Rambling Rose, which was released in 1991, Burke had a role opposite the performance for which Laura Dern was nominated for an Academy Award.
