Robert De Niro Sr. was an American abstract expressionist painter and the father of actor Robert De Niro. He was born on May 3, 1922, and suddenly died on May 3, 1993.

Robert, along with his siblings John and Joan, was raised in Syracuse. He was the oldest of three children. Robert De Niro’s brother John De Niro was a retired stone cutter and a Syracuse resident 64 years, died Saturday night at his home.
De Niro kept on exhibiting in galleries and museums across the country in the 1970s and 1980s, with stops in New York, San Francisco, Kansas City, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C.
He was a professor at the New York Studio School, the Cooper Union, the School of Visual Arts, and the New School for Social Research, among other art schools and universities. In the spring of 1974, De Niro was a visiting artist at the Department of Art at Michigan State University.
