The veteran director Robert Butler, most recognized for having directed the Batman and Star Trek pilot episodes, has passed away. Butler’s obituary in the Los Angeles Times on Saturday served as the family’s official announcement of the director’s passing. He was 95.

Robert Butler’s 2 children: Meet Robert Butler Jr. and Conrelia Butler
Robert Butler Jr. and Cornelia Butler, the two children of Butler, are known to be his son and daughter, respectively. Liam and Rainer are his other two grandchildren.
As the first director on Star Trek, Butler filmed a two-part pilot with Jeffrey Hunter in the role of the ship’s first captain. Butler and Gene Roddenberry made certain changes to the pilot based on feedback from CBS executives at the time, one of which was William Shatner’s replacement as James T. Kirk.
The 1966 Batman series pilot featuring Adam West was subsequently worked on by Butler. In a different interview, this one for a book that was published to promote the show, the director discussed why he found working on the show to be so enjoyable.
