Robert Nesta Marley OM, baptized as Berhane Selassie in 1980, was a Jamaican singer, musician, and songwriter who lived from 6 February 1945 to 11 May 1981.
His musical career was distinguished by the fusion of reggae, ska, and rocksteady as well as his unique voice and compositional style.
He is regarded as one of the pioneers of reggae. Marley’s contributions to music elevated Jamaican music’s profile internationally and cemented his place in modern popular culture. Marley developed a reputation as a Rastafari icon throughout the course of his career and incorporated spirituality into his songs.
Robert Marley Junior, who goes by “Robbie” to avoid confusion with the senior Marley, was given that name after his father. He grew up with Bob and Rita Marley and is Bob’s son through Pat Williams. He has chosen to pursue a profession in graphic design.
