A 29-year-old lavatory attendant was found guilty of robbery and given a 15-year term of hard labor by an Accra Circuit Court.
Issahaku Ibrahim entered a not guilty plea to charges of robbing Arafat Sanah, possessing a pistol without authorization, and inflicting criminal harm on him; however, a jury found him guilty.
Ibrahim was found not guilty of the accusation of possessing a firearm without a license and was given a sentence of two years for causing hurt and fifteen years for robbery, with the orders to serve the terms concurrently. Evelyn Asamoah presided over the C=court.
Sanah, the complainant, and others were selling their phones in front of Yam Market in Accra on May 22, 2023, at around 3:30 p.m., when the convict, Ibrahim, and nine other people armed with locally made pistols attacked and repeatedly cut Sanah. This information was previously provided to the court by Police Chief Inspector Clement Takyi.
In addition, they pointed the handguns made in the area at him, demanding that he give over the ten (10) different phones he was selling—the exact value of which is unknown.
He claimed that the complainant gave Ibrahim the phones out of fear for his life.
