American character actor Richard Miller (December 25, 1928 – January 30, 2019) was in more than 180 movies, many of which were made by Roger Corman. Later, he made cameos in the movies of filmmakers who started their careers with Corman, such as James Cameron, Martin Scorsese, and Joe Dante, and he holds the distinction of having made an appearance in each of Dante’s movies. He was well known for portraying the struggling everyman, frequently in brief cameos.
Miller, the son of Russian Jewish immigrants Rita (Blucher), an opera singer, and Ira Miller, a printer, was born on Christmas Day 1928 in The Bronx, New York. He completed a term of duty in the US Navy. As a result of his attendance at City College of New York, Columbia University, and New York University, Miller eventually earned a PhD in psychology. He started out as a writer before becoming an actor.
