Richard Joseph Howard was an American poet who died on March 31, 2022 in Manhattan at the age of 92. He was adopted, as Richard Joseph Orwitz. Richard was an American poet, literary critic, teacher, essayist, and translator.
He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on October 13, 1929 and graduated from Columbia University. He studied under Mark Van Doren, and became an emeritus professor. He lived in New York City.
