He is most known for his roles as BPD Detective, NYPD Detective/Sergeant, and DA Investigator John Munch, which he played as a regular cast member on the NBC police drama series Homicide: Life on the Street and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit as well as in guest roles on various other shows. From 1993 until his retirement in 2016, he spent 23 years playing the role.
