Former mayor Rex H Minter, born in 1927, died on the evening of Thursday, December 22, 2022, at the age of 95. The City of Santa Monica issued a statement in response to his passing and in honor of his political career.
“We express our heartfelt sympathies to his children, grandkids, family members, and his many friends across Santa Monica,” says the statement, which was reproduced by Fox 7 Austin.
According to a 2006 piece in the Santa Monica Mirror, Minter originally joined the city council at the age of 27 in 1955.

There are no records indicating if he had children or was married before his death. Rex Minter began working as the Arcadia city attorney after leaving the city council in 1967, at the age of 39 or 40.
He eventually worked as a superior court judge and a municipal court judge in Santa Monica.
By 2006, he had retired but continued to serve as an appointed judge “from time to time,” according to the Mirror.
Following his death, the mayor of Santa Monica announced that flags in front of city hall will be lowered to half-staff, according to the Los Angeles Times, via Yahoo News.
A municipal council meeting will be held in the new year to celebrate his service.
