The National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and chairman of one of the four parliamentary vetting committees, Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B), has been asked to retract and apologize for comments he made on his Facebook wall that he claims are full of blatant lies. This request comes from Richard Ofori-Atta, (Tomtom), the chairman of the NPP’s Manhyia South constituency.
On Thursday, January 11, 2024, Nana B posted a message on Facebook that read, “My attention has been drawn to a media reportage suggesting that the New Patriotic Party’s Chairman Wontumi, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, has acted in a manner that is disrespectful to His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the party’s recently held Ashanti Regional Parliamentary Vetting.”
“I am in charge of clearing up a small misunderstanding that happened between the regional chairman and the organizer of the Manhyia South Constituency as the chairman of the vetting committee.
“However, during the course of our work as a committee, I in my capacity as the Chairman of the committee did not witness any such conduct by the Regional Chairman that sought to disparage or lower the authority of our revered and highly respected King,” according to Nana Boakye’s post on Facebook.
On January 3, 2024, Mr. Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as “Nana B,” the national organizer of the New Patriotic Party, issued a statement outlining an incident that happened during the party’s screening of Parliamentary Aspirants in the Ashanti Region. On the other hand, Tom Tom took offense and declared in his statement that he had “become aware of this statement.”
“In his statement, Nana B refuted media reports that purport to show disrespect for His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II during the vetting process by the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also referred to as “Chairman Wontumi.”
“Tom Tom’s statement stated that Nana B, as the Chairman of the Vetting Committee, could recall a minor miscommunication that occurred between the Regional Chairman and the Manhyia South Constituency Organizer, which I was dedicated to clearing up,” Nana B went on to say.
However, in my capacity as the committee’s chairman, I did not witness any actions by the Regional Chairman intended to disparage or undermine the authority of our cherished and highly esteemed King during our committee’s business.
“After closely reviewing Nana B’s statement, which is replete with flagrant lies, I am requesting that he retract and issue an apology by today, Thursday, January 18, 2024, at the latest, or I will release the complete facts tomorrow, Friday, January 19, 2024. The statement from Tom Tom continued, “I must add that there were approximately forty people in the vetting room and the facts cannot be hidden.
