Response to Kwesi Nyantakyi’s remark on “gari and shito” by Dan Kwaku Yeboah

Sports presenter Dan Kwaku Yeboah of Accra, Ghana, claims it is common for Ghanaians to travel overseas with “gari” and “shito” as a contingency food supply.

This is a routine that all of us go through when we are sent on assignments abroad; in the event that we run out of cash to eat at restaurants, the gari and shito [corn flakes and pepper sauce] serve as a convenient emergency food supply, he explained.

He believed that even wealthy individuals bring gari and shito on international trips, therefore he was perplexed as to why he was being made fun of for taking them.

Dan Kwaku Yeboah’s response came after former Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kwesi Nyantakyi disclosed that he had been a great assistance to numerous sports journalists in Ghana, including Dan Kwaku Yeboah.

During his recent appearance on Bola Ray’s Starr Chat radio show, Kwesi Nyantakyi revealed that he once went out to dinner during an Australian tournament in 2008 and realized that Dan Kwaku Yeboah was never joining them.

Upon asking, Dan Kwaku Yeboah informed him that he was depending on gari and shito that he had bought from Ghana.

After learning of Kwaku Yeboah’s story about the gari and shito, Mr. Nyantakyi said he told the sports writer to discard it and accompany him to a nice dinner as he was willing to sponsor it.

Known for his humorous radio stories, particularly on Peace FM’s morning show, Dan Kwaku Yeboah was made fun of following Kwesi Nyantakyi’s admission that she chewed shito and gari when traveling abroad.

Reacting on Peace FM, Yeboah laughed at Nyantakyi’s expectation that he would defend him. Yeboah declined, citing the charges of corruption, to much laughter. Even on private excursions, he saw no problem bringing gari and shito to Australia. He told Nyantakyi to keep quiet and give thanks to God.
