After the successful installation of cutting-edge equipment that will allow the Department to increase accessibility, efficiency, and overall operations to better serve the public, the Rent Control Department is scheduled to start digitizing its operations next month.

These were revealed by Francis Asenso-Boakye (MP), the Minister of Works and Housing, during his visit to the Department yesterday to see whether they were prepared to start providing online services to the general public.

Recall that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia saw the need to streamline and reform the Department’s operations during his visit in 2020, and it was during this visit that he came up with the concept to digitize the Department’s activities.

The Minister stated that the government’s commitment to the Ghanaian people to modernize the Rent Control Department’s operations in order to better serve the interests of housing sector stakeholders includes the online service delivery system.

The Minister stated that the Department’s operational shortcomings will be greatly addressed and streamlined by the digital transformation, because the Department now uses antiquated methods to gather data and cater to its hordes of clients.

“Since arriving here, I’ve noticed that many individuals are seated and waiting to be served. They are no longer required to come here because the Department has gone digital. Landlords and tenants can register their properties, submit tenancy agreements, and file complaints online. A staff of committed individuals will promptly handle all issues.”

The Department’s activities will significantly involve less human interactions as a result of this overhaul.

The Project Manager, Mr. Amit Meluban, reaffirmed that once the Department is online, individuals would be able to do everything from the convenience of their homes or offices, including making payments, so they won’t need to visit the Rent Control office.

The public education system for the internet distribution system is anticipated to debut soon.
