A new awards scheme for reggae and dancehall music is set to launch in Ghana in July 2024, aiming to revive and celebrate these genres.
The initiative, known as the Reggae Gold Awards, will focus on recognizing and rewarding authentic reggae and dancehall songs, with a technical-based judging system rather than a popularity contest.
Mr. Logic, the organizer of the awards, revealed his motivation for creating the Reggae Gold Awards during an interview on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z.
He explained that after seeing the Bass Awards, which previously served a similar purpose, become inactive, he felt compelled to step in and fill the void left by the organizers.
The board of the Reggae Gold Awards will consist of individuals with extensive technical knowledge of reggae and dancehall music, ensuring a fair and impartial selection process. The main awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in November 2024 following the official launch in July.
