State officials have warned of statewide blackouts as Californians battle extreme heat as temperatures in certain regions of the San Francisco Bay Area have reached record highs.

As the temperatures spike in California warnings of a deadly wildfire is already sparking fears of evacuation.

The hottest temperature ever recorded in the Bay Area was 116 degrees on Monday in Livermore, a city on the eastern side of the Bay Area, according to the National Weather Service.

The governor of California, Gavin Newsom, said in a video released on social media on Tuesday that the state is now experiencing a heat wave that may be the hottest and longest in state history for September.

The state’s power and grid infrastructure is likewise being stressed to the limit and might see disruptions in the distribution of electricity. The state is now urging residents to conserve as much energy as they possibly can to reduce the power load.
