A statement issued by the President Akufo-Addo

The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo has today July 21, issued a statement condemning the brutal assault of a police officer on a client of the Midlands Savings and Loans company when she was there to withdraw her savings.

The police officer Frederick Amanor Skalla was filmed assaulting the victim Patience Osafo on Thursday because she refused to leave the premises of a branch of the Midland Savings and Loans company after they refused to pay her savings.

In the statement posted to the social media account of the President, strong words were used to condemn the actions of the police officer who put the name of the Police Service in disrepute.

The statement read: “Policemen are meant to protect citizens, not to assault citizens. The measures that the IGP has taken to sanction the erring policeman and make sure these things don’t happen again, have my complete support. I support 100% the measures he has taken, so that we can stop these incidents from proliferating”
