Ray Price was recognized as an Indie film producer who championed the likes of Tran Anh Hung, Gurinder Chadha, and Carl Franklin. The producer is no more and his death has shocked the world.
In 1972, Price established his film career and managed the Berkeley storefront theater the Rialto, and went on to build with Allen Michaan Renaissance Theaters. During his leadership, Renaissance Theaters was widely known for redesigning marketing materials which fledgling distributors often adopted when the films hadn’t found success in other markets.

Price passed away on July 16, 2023, at the age of 75. He was battling cancer and unfortunately died of heart failure.
Price in his film career has been able to support up-and-coming filmmakers like Tran Anh Hung (“The Scent of Green Papaya”), Gurinder Chadha (“Bhaji on The Beach”), Carl Franklin (“One False Move”), Allison Anders (“Gas Food Lodging”) and John Sayles (“The Secret of Roan Inish”).
