Despite an interruptive noise population from a ‘bitter’ and furious neighbour, AJ Nelson stood on his ground to deliver stunning performance at his end of year concert.

On Wednesday, November 26, 2019, the popular Republic Bar & Grill in Osu, Accra, was filled with music lovers and fans of the Brong Ahafo-native who thronged the open bar to consume a raw version of his acclaimed debut album “Africa Rise”.

Last month marked the first anniversary of the album, and to mark its success, AJ Nelson and his band – The Africa Band – stormed Republic Bar & Grill to display some class with a live version of the 16-track masterpiece.

Interestingly, none of the featured artistes on the album showed up but the hip-hop, hiplife, highlife and afrobeats star delivered intense showmanship and pure class with just a little support from rising stars, Ribeiro and Abeiku.

The beautiful show was nearly ruined by an angry neighbour who felt disturbed by the noise population from the show. With an obvious perversity, he counteracted by mounting two huge megaphones, playing loud Kpalongo music to create discomfort for the attendees.

However, AJ Nelson proved beyond any reasonable doubt that he can create magic when he’s in charge of the stage. From “Kwanto” to “I Dey Here”, AJ Nelson was unstoppable – serving a memorable moment.

“This album has earned me a lot of respect among legends and the people who are musically inclined and always on the lookout to hear or to listen to an artiste such as raw as myself in terms of my content.”

“The ‘Africa Rise’ album has inspired me to put together my own band. I believe I’m the first rapper based in Ghana to do so. That’s an achievement, right?”

“I have received a lot of positive compliments from all over the world. The ‘Africa Rise’ album is on Elorm Bennie’s top five Ghanaian Hip-hop albums; it’s also a favourite of Mr Mark Darlington, the manager of Reggie and Bollie.”

“As far as my career is concerned, I love what the album has done,” AJ stated in an interview.

The event was graced by hiplife and highlife legend Gyedu Blay Ambolley and Presidential Candidate for the CPP, Ivor Kobina Greenstreet.
