Hunter was born in the Glenfield district of Auckland, New Zealand, and was reared there. She was a young child when her parents divorced. When she was younger, she aspired to be a ballet dancer, but when it was revealed that she had a rare blood disorder, those ambitions were dashed.
At the age of 16, Hunter began her modeling career in France, Australia, and New Zealand. She was featured in Australian Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Australian Cosmopolitan, as well as in numerous campaigns in Australia and New Zealand.
She became the “Trumpet Girl” and the face of Tip Top Ice-Cream in New Zealand. She rapidly became a Ford Model and started a great career. She was given a contract with Cover Girl Cosmetics and served as the brand’s ambassador for many years.
