Rachel Louise Haynes (born December 26, 1986) is an Australian cricketer who has represented her country in five world championships.
Haynes, a left-handed batter, is Australia’s current vice-captain.
She also plays for New South Wales in the Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) and captains the Sydney Thunder in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) (WNCL).
Haynes first experience playing cricket was with her cousins with a bat carved from a fence.
She also watched matches on television, which lead her to idolize late cricket legend Shane Warne before being inspired by Belinda Clark and Cathryn Fitzpatrick.
Haynes was recalled to the Australian team in February 2017 after a three-and-a-half-year absence, and was subsequently named in the Australian Women’s 2017 World Cup roster.
Her incredible return continued when she was selected acting captain for the 2017-18 Ashes, replacing Meg Lanning, who was injured.
Haynes was deputy captain of her country’s team that won the ICC World T20 competition for the fourth time in 2018.
Winning her sixth T20 World Cup triumph in front of more than 86,000 fans at the MCG, like her NSW teammates Alyssa Healy and Ashleigh Gardner, was certainly a career highlight.
