Businessman Richard Jakpa, who is the third accused in the ambulance procurement trial, has made some bold claims regarding Attorney-General Godfred Dame. According to Jakpa, the AG used documents that he had provided to build his case against him.
During a court proceeding on Thursday, June 20, Jakpa asserted that the documents he gave to the AG played a crucial role in shaping the prosecution’s strategy. These documents, which contained communications and information exchanged between Jakpa and the Attorney-General, were said to be instrumental in the case against him.
Jakpa raised concerns about the fairness of the prosecution’s case, suggesting that the evidence presented by the AG was largely derived from his submissions. He also maintained that WhatsApp messages submitted as evidence had been tampered with, potentially undermining the credibility of the case.
The court admitted 68 WhatsApp messages allegedly sent by Jakpa, as well as two responses by the AG, into evidence. However, Director of Public Prosecutions Yvonne Atakora Obuobisa rebutted Jakpa’s claims, stating that the AG had already completed his case before his conversation with Jakpa.
She emphasized that the Attorney-General did not require the accused’s cooperation to build his case. Obuobisa revealed that the documents Jakpa claimed to have provided were filed by the AG back in February 2022, contradicting Jakpa’s timeline of events.
The trial continues as Jakpa faces scrutiny from the Attorney-General in the ongoing legal battle.
