The University of Professional Studies, Accra, has appointed Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor as its third Vice-Chancellor.
The announcement was made through a circular signed by the university’s Registrar, Lorraine Gyan, and dated May 6, 2024.
Prof. Mawutor will officially assume his new role on January 1, 2025, taking over from Prof. Abednego F.O. Amartey, whose tenure will end on December 31, 2024, after serving for eight years.
Prof. Mawutor, a professor of Finance and a Chartered Accountant, is currently the Pro Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, overseeing the day-to-day administration of academic affairs. The circular highlighted his key achievements in promoting the development and delivery of academic programs, quality assurance initiatives, and streamlining academic processes for greater efficiency.
With over 20 years of experience in academia and industry, Prof. Mawutor has held various leadership positions at UPSA, including Programme Coordinator, Vice-Dean, and Dean of the School of Graduate Studies. As Dean, he significantly expanded the university’s graduate programs, both in student population and program offerings.
Starting as a lecturer at UPSA in 2008, Prof. Mawutor has steadily progressed through the ranks, becoming a Senior Lecturer in 2014 and an Associate Professor in 2021. His appointment as Vice-Chancellor signifies his dedication and contribution to the academic and administrative growth of the institution.
The new Vice-Chancellor is poised to continue driving academic excellence and innovation at UPSA, building on his track record of advancing faculty-centric and student-centered projects to enhance teaching and learning. His appointment marks a new chapter in the university’s leadership, setting the stage for continued progress and development in the academic landscape.
