Ghanaian President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has stated that he has no knowledge of the presence of terrorist groups like Al-Qaeda in the country. He confirmed during a joint press conference with US Vice President, Kamala Harris, that security agencies are on top of any potential threats in the country.
President Akufo-Addo acknowledged the possibility of terrorist cells in Ghana but stated that there is no formal information about the presence of Al-Qaeda. He emphasized that Ghana intends to handle its own security issues without foreign assistance, but the country welcomes support from the US in its bid for debt forgiveness from the Paris Club to ensure economic stability.
The President’s statement reassures Ghanaians that the security agencies are vigilant and proactive in handling any form of security threats. Despite the lack of formal information about Al-Qaeda’s presence, the government is taking measures to prevent any terrorist cells from establishing themselves in Ghana.
