Stephen Asamoah Boateng, the Minister of Chieftaincy Affairs, has called former President John Dramani Mahama an ineffective leader.
On February 17, 2024, the former congressman claimed to the supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Damongo that Mahama had not anticipated becoming president if it weren’t for the passing of his former employer, John Evans Atta Mills, while he was in government.
“He had no intention of becoming president. He made a mistake when it was hurled at him in some way. And he made a huge mistake. Now, I’m not sure what he is going to do when he returns,” Boateng, also known as Asa Bee, emphasized.
“But his brother Bawumia from the north has leapfrogged him already. Bawumia is looking forward not backwards,” he added before alleging wrongly that Mahama, a year on from his election as 2024 flagbearer for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said nothing by way of policy directions.
“After being nominated in just two months, Bawumia has come up with policy directions and the way to get the economy to the higher level,” Asa Bee stated in reference to the vice president’s February 7 lecture.
“So, let’s go out of this room and all of us, do hard work. It is not going to be easy but I know we will win, we will beat the NDC to pulp,” he stressed.
John Dramani Mahama, who is running for president four times in a row and seeking his final term in office, is Bawumia’s main opponent in the 2024 election.
He defeated Akufo-Addo in his second and third efforts, in 2016 and 2020, respectively, after winning his first try in 2012.
For the first time in the Fourth Republic, the two front-runners for the presidency—John Mahama and Mahamudu Bawumia will both hail from the north of the nation.
