Power crisis: Akufo-Addo’s government is dishonest, says Sammy Gyamfi

The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has accused the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government of being dishonest with Ghanaians about the current power crisis in the country.

In recent weeks, parts of Ghana have been experiencing prolonged power outages, leading to businesses relying on generators. Despite this, government officials, including the Energy Minister, and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have insisted that there is no ‘Dumsor’ and that the country is not shedding load.

During an appearance before the Government Assurances Committee of Parliament, Energy Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh stated that what Ghanaians are currently facing is ‘Dum sie sie’, which he claims is different from the ‘Dumsor’ experienced under former President John Mahama.

President Nana Akufo-Addo also assured workers at the annual May Day celebration that the era of Dumsor has been effectively dealt with and that the power supply challenges will soon be a thing of the past.

However, Sammy Gyamfi vehemently disagreed with these assertions, calling the NPP government a “bunch of liars” and accusing them of disrespecting Ghanaians. He highlighted the contradictions in the government’s statements regarding the power crisis and questioned how a problem that supposedly never existed could be solved.

Legal practitioner Martin Kpebu also criticized the Energy Minister for his remarks, stating that they demonstrate a lack of concern for the sentiments of the Ghanaian people experiencing the frequent power outages.
