Poltician Philippe de Gaulle dies at 102

In the early hours of March 12, 2024, French senator and admiral Philippe Henri Xavier Antoine de Gaulle passed away. The age of his death was 102.

Following the announcement of his death, the precise cause of his demise wasn’t  stated.

De Gaulle was baptized on June 8, 1922, in the Church of St. Francis Xavier in the 7th Arrondissement. He was born in Paris on December 28, 1921. After receiving his education at the same school where his father had studied, the Collège Stanislas de Paris, he enlisted in the French Navy.

Though it has been speculated that Philippe was named after General Philippe Pétain, of whom his father was a huge fan, Philippe was named after his family progenitor Jean-Baptiste de Gaulle, according to Charles de Gaulle.

De Gaulle wed Henriette de Montalembert Cers (1 January 1929 – 22 June 2014), a member of the Marquis de Montalembert’s family, on December 30, 1947. Admiral Georges Thierry d’Argenlieu, who oversaw the Free French Naval Forces during the conflict, bestowed his blessing on the union. The pair’s four sons were:

Charles de Gaulle II, a corporate lawyer and the first MEP in the UDF and RPR labels, was born in Dijon on September 25, 1948, and he joined the National Front in May of 1999.
Yves de Gaulle, general secretary of GDF SUEZ, was a technocrat born in Rabat, Morocco, on September 1, 1951.

Jean de Gaulle, born in Bourg-en-Bresse on June 13, 1953, was the master of the Court of Auditors after serving as the deputy of Deux-Sèvres and Paris from 1986 until his resignation in 2007. Pierre de Gaulle (20 June 1963, Suresnes)
