Taurus Tremani Bartlett (Polo G) was born on January 6, 1999, in the Marshall Field Garden Apartments, in the Old Town neighborhood on Chicago’s north side, to Taurus Bartlett and Stacia Mac. Mac, a former property manager, manages Bartlett. He is the second of four children, with an older sister, a younger brother, Taurean, who also performs as Trench Baby as a rapper, and a younger sister.
After graduating from high school, Bartlett was accepted to Lincoln University with a broadcasting major, but decided not to attend on his first day, instead pursuing a full-time music career. He is a member of the Chicago-based gang Mickey Cobras, which has a history of feuding with gangs such as the Gangster Disciples.
The first song Bartlett ever made was “ODA,” which he uploaded to YouTube. He launched the song “Gang with Me” after opening a SoundCloud account in 2018, and it received millions of plays very soon. His songs “Welcome Back” and “Neva Cared” helped him to keep gaining popularity. In the second half of 2018, Bartlett released “Finer Things,” a song he had written while he was behind bars.
The song received millions of views very rapidly. Bartlett released “Pop Out” with Lil Tjay at the beginning of 2019, and it reached its highest point on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 11. He signed a record deal with Columbia Records as a result of the song’s music video, which has received over 200 million views on YouTube.
