The late Alwi was born on May 15, 1933, and was the first PhD of communication science in Indonesia. His role as a lecturer at the University of Indonesia and several other higher education institutions has earned him recognition as a significant figure in the advancement of communication science in the field.
The late Alwi was married to his long time partner, Elita Rivai of which they were blessed with three children.
