Supporters of political parties in Ghana have once again been urged to embrace tolerance and respect for differing opinions as the nation gears up for the 2024 elections.
Clement Boateng, the Country Director for Global Media Foundation (GLoMeF), emphasized the importance of accommodating diverse perspectives to reduce political tensions in the country.
Boateng highlighted the prevalence of intolerance in various regions, including Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo, cautioning supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) against letting political differences breed division. He emphasized the need for unity among Ghanaians, emphasizing that politics should not sow enmity among citizens.
In light of the upcoming elections, Boateng advised the youth to reject any attempts by individuals or groups to incite violence. He urged political leaders to refrain from using provocative language in their campaigns, as it could incite chaos in the nation. Boateng also encouraged voters to reject any party that resorts to threats or intimidation during the campaign period.
The Adolescent Parliament, a key component of the Resilient City for Adolescents Project, provides a platform for young people in the Sunyani Municipality to engage in governance and demand accountability. Members of the parliament, drawn from various communities, convene to discuss issues and advocate for policies that benefit their region.
As Ghana prepares for the 2024 elections, Boateng expressed hope that the nation will uphold its tradition of peaceful and democratic elections. He emphasized the need for all citizens to prioritize national unity and reject the spread of fake news and disinformation.
The call for tolerance and respect for diverse opinions is crucial as Ghana navigates the political landscape leading up to the elections, ensuring that democracy thrives on the principles of inclusivity and mutual respect.
