Police shortage force the postponement of Arsenal’s Europa League match against PSV

Due to a shortage of police personnel following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II last week, Thursday’s Europa League match between Arsenal and PSV Eindhoven has been postponed.

This week, London will need a massive police operation because the queen will be in state from Wednesday until her funeral on Monday, September 19.

“The UEFA Europa League tie between Arsenal FC and PSV Eindhoven, originally to be played on Thursday 15 September, has been postponed with a new date to be communicated in due course,” UEFA said in a statement on Monday.

“This is due to the severe limitations on police resources and organisational issues related to the ongoing events surrounding the national mourning for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.”

Following the queen’s passing on Thursday, all football fixtures in England and Scotland were postponed for the weekend.

The Sunday Premier League match between Arsenal and Brentford is also in question because of the shortage of police personnel.

The Gunners have a string of games coming up in a season that will already be cut short by the first-ever winter World Cup.

Before the World Cup break starts on November 13, Mikel Arteta’s team is scheduled to play every midweek game outside of the forthcoming international break.

The UEFA club tournaments’ group rounds are scheduled to end on November 3 and the knockout stage draws are scheduled for November 7.
