Non-federal security personnel are not permitted to run in the State House of Assembly rerun elections scheduled for February 3rd, according to the Kano State Police Command.
At a stakeholders’ meeting between security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, on Wednesday in Kano, State Commissioner of Police Muhammad Usaini Gumel made note of this.
In the State House of Assembly rerun election, Kura/Garunmalam, Tofa/Rimin Gado, and one other constituency that has not yet been declared due to investigations were all involved.
Following the stakeholders’ meeting at the Police Headquarters, society, and media, Commissioner Amb. Abdu Zango announced that the state has started training ADA staff and that both sensitive and secure materials are currently in use.
“I’m happy to announce that everything is on schedule for the next rerun elections on February 3rd. Everything is going as planned, including the logistics.”
To develop plans for a free, fair, and credible election in a highly secure setting, we have held discussions with all relevant parties, the media, civil society, and political parties. Today, we also met with security agencies.
“I’m dealing with specialists who have done this before and will do it again, so I’ve been assured everything will go smoothly. Thus far, the arrangement has given me great confidence,” Zango remarked.
He continued by saying that the university dons would carry out their responsibilities as returning officers and that members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) would continue to serve as on-call field workers.
