The Greater Accra Regional Minister designate, Daniel Titus Glover, has given assurance that the police are actively investigating the recent clash that occurred between civilians and Naval officers in Tema. He emphasized that justice will be served in this matter.

During an appearance on the Ghana Tonight show on TV3, Glover stated, “As we speak, the Police are doing their bit. The Metro Security Council met this afternoon and I am sure they will arrive at some solutions. As for justice, we will make sure we look at it, but let us wait patiently for the Police report that will come because they are the real professionals dealing with this issue.”

These comments from Glover come in response to a call made by Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for the Police to investigate the clash. Nyaho-Tamakloe also urged the Minister of Defence, Dominic Nitiwul, to intervene and brief President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on the incident.

The clash at the Tema Naval Base led to the tragic deaths of two civilians. The Ghana Armed Forces released a statement detailing the events that transpired, explaining that a group participating in a festival in Tema Newtown attacked a vehicle belonging to the Eastern Naval Command of the Ghana Navy. This attack resulted in damage to the vehicle and injuries to three naval personnel onboard.

GAF reported that three suspects were arrested by naval personnel and handed over to the Tema Newtown District Police for further investigations. However, another mob launched a second attack on the naval base in an attempt to release the arrested individuals. Warning shots were fired by the naval base security to protect the installations from further threat.

The Ghana Police Service later confirmed the deaths of two individuals, with the cause of death yet to be ascertained. Investigations are ongoing, with findings set to be disclosed in due course.

GAF extended condolences to the affected families and urged all parties involved to maintain calm during the investigation. Additionally, a warning was issued to the youth of Tema to refrain from further attacks on military installations and personnel to avoid facing appropriate consequences.
