The People’s National Convention (PNC) has vehemently denied reports of a splinter group within the party forming a new political entity called the People’s National Party (PNP).
According to a statement released by the PNC on April 17, 2024, the party refuted claims made by former General Secretary Janet Nabila and her faction that eleven out of sixteen regions had pledged their support for the new party.
The PNC, in the statement signed by National Communications Secretary Awudu Ishaq, urged its members to remain steadfast and not be swayed by what it described as deceitful actions by the former General Secretary and her group. The party also emphasized that the formation of the PNP was illegal, as it is a derivative of the original PNP from which the PNC stems.
The statement also highlighted the party’s determination to pursue all legal means to prevent the use of the PNP name. The PNC called on its members, particularly branch, constituency, and regional executives, to remain resolute and not succumb to the influence of individuals whose actions have been detrimental to the party’s interests.
Despite the alleged support of eleven regions for the new party, the PNC asserted that this information was false and intended to mislead the public. The party reiterated its commitment to using every legitimate and legal avenue to prevent the use of the PNP name.
Furthermore, the statement expressed the party’s unwavering focus on growth and development, emphasizing that it remains undeterred by the decision of any individual or group to leave the party.
