Cory Wayne Patterson is arrested when an aircraft crashes in Ripley, Mississippi, about five hours after an emergency call was placed to police, with the pilot threatening to crash into a Tupelo Walmart.
The jet hovered overhead for the next five hours until coming down, with the pilot said to have survived.
He was detained and eventually identified as Cory Wayne Patterson, who did not hold a pilot’s licence but had taken some training and worked for Tupelo Aviation.
According to authorities, he is now facing accusations of grand larceny (the most serious kind of stealing) and making terrorist threats.
He might face federal prosecution as well.
