To date, Spector, the songwriters, and the performers of just those two songs have received more than $100 million in royalties. The Beatles’ album “Let It Be” and John Lennon’s best-known solo albums, such as “Imagine” and “Instant Karma,” were both produced by Phil.

On December 31, he was transported to San Joaquin General Hospital in French Camp, California, and intubated in January 2021. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation reports that Spector passed away on January 16 at the age of 81 in a medical facility outside the state. In 2024, he would have been able to apply for parole.
