Thomas Peter Usborne was a publisher from the United Kingdom. Usborne co-founded the satirical journal Private Eye in the early 1960s. He created the children’s book publisher Usborne Publications in 1973.

The “Children’s Book” Author died a natural death surrounded by his family. He died at the age of 85. Usborne is survived by his wife Wendy, daughters Nicola and Martin, and five grandchildren.
His death has triggered a flood of tributes, including from Private Eye magazine, of which he was the first managing director when it was founded in 1961. He was hailed as a “genius” with “child-like energy and curiosity” by his company.
Only his determination to make books available to all children matched his brilliance.
The company added: “This determination was fuelled by his passion for ‘doing things better’ than any other children’s book publisher, matched with a child-like energy and curiosity that made him light up every room he stepped into.
“He was an exceptional publisher, an inspirational leader, and a very kind, generous man who will be sorely missed by everyone lucky enough to know him. ”
Mr. Usborne received a CBE for services to literature this year during an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle, after his MBE in 2011 for services to the publishing sector.
This year also marked the 50th anniversary of Usborne Publications.
