Irish music legend Pete St John has passed away. He passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2022, at the age of 90.
According to a family statement, St John, legally known as Peter Mooney, passed away peacefully at Dublin’s Beaumont Hospital while surrounded by his lovely family.
He wrote many chart-topping songs and global hits, which includes The Fields of Athenry and The Rare Ould Times.
Not just that — his pieces were recorded by artists including The Dubliners, Paddy Reilly and many more.
The Dublin-native trained as an electrician and worked abroad as a young man in places including Canada and the US.
He returned to Ireland in the 1970s and many of his songs looked at how his native city had changed over the years, rte.ie reports.
St John was married to Susan who is late. She died a few years ago. The couple had adult children; Kieron and Brian Mooney. Both kids live private life and are hardly seen in the limelight.
